Did the PAGASA goof or is El Niño postponed

By Joe Espiritu

Did the PAGASA goof or is El Niño postponed? Not that we are complaining but not everyone can be satisfied. Rice farmers, whose paddies had been cracking because of a dry spell are cheering. However, fisherfolks whose fish are drying are starting to curse. Not only them. Also their neighbors. The neighborhood is starting to stink.

St Peter, the patron saint of fishermen wanted sunshine so his devotees could dry their catch. St. Isidore de Labrador or San Isidro wanted rain for his farmers so they decided to toss a coin. But the coin they had was rendered to Cesar so they decided to let nature take her course, until they find another coin.

Anyway, the rains of the inter convergence zone is doing a last hurrah. When the perpendicular rays of the sun will pass Bohol on its journey north, the  cold north winds will be driven northward away from the rain clouds from the south. No precipitation will occur. That will be some two months from now.

February, that is next month, is expected to be somewhat dryer. However, there is no assurance to that. If a meteorologist would stay here and air his predictions here, he would have no takers. Bohol weather is sometimes crazy. Storms come even on April. They call it freak storm but whether freak or not, it is still a storm.

If we would have our way, we would prefer wet weather from February to June. We would like to see wet candidates of all parties. Wet candidates are glamorous to behold. Candidates whose annual bathing periods fall on the Holy Week, that means they take a bath only on Holy Week cannot take his oath of office even if he wins, he will melt down or contact pneumonia.

The presidential and senatorial race had started. It is now open season for those candidates. However, they are too far away to suit our taste. They may come here just once and that is all. What we will be waiting for is the open season for the locals. However, rapacious voters can be in for a let down. Majority of local candidates are tihiks spelled with a capital T.

There is a new breed of electorate and candidates now. There is the wise voters money down before writing down. There are also wise candidates, they give voters promissory note redeemable only after winning. Any candidate who buys vote so he could serve needs to have his head examined. He spends so he could recover his investment several times over. A senator without a countrywide development fund is nothing. Take away the pork barrel and nobody runs for congress.

Only those who have something to prove will run for public office. There are good campaigners but bad lawmakers and worse administrators. There are those who campaign badly but make good lawmakers and good managers. There are those who would like to transfer his expertise before he dies. Those compose a rare breed. Sometimes we call them dedicated idiots. They are our kind of idiots who makes Jagna a better place to live in.

We wait then with bated breath for the local open season to start. We will start o identify those with full pockets. Perhaps, when it rains awe will be experiencing a little moisture. Do look at us Mac, we are broke. If we survive this exercise with you and us broke that would not be a surprise.

Iran will start exporting gas to Iraq

Iran will start exporting gas to Iraq within the next three months, Iranian Oil Minister Rostam Qasemi said on Sunday. Qasemi, who met with his Iraqi counterpart Abdul Kareem al-Luaibi in Baghdad, said the agreement on Iranian gas supplies to Iraq had "reached the stage of final signing." "The launch of gas exports will proceed by stages, First, gas will start to be supplied to Baghdad and then, within another three months, to Basra," official news agency IRNA quoted Qasemi as saying. Iraq is expected to consume about 20-25 million cubic meters of Iranian gas per day. Iran, which has the world's second largest natural gas reserves after Russia, is also close to signing an agreement on gas supplies to Syria via Iraq, Qasemi said. "The signing of this agreement will take place in Tehran with the participation of representatives from the three countries," the Iranian oil minister said. In the summer of 2010, Iran, Iraq and Syria signed a memora...

Buried Treasures in Bohol Philippines

Written by Joe Espiritu       Four persons died in a treasure hunting accident last week. They died for nothing. Many had lost their shirts in the venture, the propensity for Filipinos to get rich quick attribute to the treasure hunting mania. The sad part is that only the ignorant venture on the search, those in the know, being sure that nothing will come out of the effort would not think of investing money, time and effort – this time lives – in a fruitless enterprise.        There had been stories of people getting rich uncovering treasure troves in unlikely places. Most stories are false. Ancient graves of archeological and anthropological value had been desecrated by treasure hunters. They had found nothing. Those people may have struck it rich but not from some hidden riches. Contrary to what other people say, there are no buried treasures in Bohol . If there had been, they were unearthed years ago.         If one ...

Fast Website Speed Affects Google Search Ranking

Over the course of 2009, a consistent theme that Google has been involved with is that of speed. In announcement after announcement, Google has talked about the importance of speed on the web, and how the company wants to do everything it can to make the web a faster place. Has it occurred to you that how fast your page loads may have a direct effect on how your site ranks in Google?  Don't worry, it hasn't had an impact...yet. In an interview with WebProNews , Google's Matt Cutts told us that speed may soon be a ranking factor.  "Historically, we haven't had to use it in our search rankings, but a lot of people within Google think that the web should be fast," says Cutts. "It should be a good experience, and so it's sort of fair to say that if you're a fast site, maybe you should get a little bit of a bonus. If you really have an awfully slow site, then maybe users don't want that as much." "I think a lot of people in 2010 are g...
